Rules and Regulations

By participating in the Hong Kong Philharmonic Association - Hong Kong International Music Competition, the participant affirms their agreement to all rules, regulations, terms, conditions, and the refund policy.

Video Preliminary - Video Filming and Submission Guidelines

Preparing the video

  1. Annouce or show your name before playing.

  2. No speech on title of piece or composer needed before playing. No penalty if you do.

  3. No showing of ID/passport needed. No penalty if you do.

  4. Make sure the face and whole body of the contestant is filmed. 

  5. Accompanist, if any, should be filmed.

  6. Pre-recorded accompaniment is NOT accepted.

  7. Electronic instrument is not accepted.

  8. Editing of the video or sound is not allowed, except adding the announcement before playing.

Video Upload

  1. Upload the video to Youtube/Vimeo/Google Drive and set the privacy to PUBLIC.

  2. Set the name of your video/file to your full name and instrument category, e.g. CHAN_Tai_Man(Violin)

  3. Make sure the video should be made publicly accessible at least until 31/7/2027.

  4. Copy and submit the link HERE if you have not submitted at the time you enroled.

Live Final

Preparation

  1. Bring your own instrument except for the piano.

  2. Bring your accompanist.

  3. Pre-recorded accompaniment is NOT accepted.

  4. Electronic instrument is not accepted.

  5. If you play with a sheet music, use or bring and show the original copyrighted publication. Use of unauthorized copies of music may result in disqualification.

On the Day

  1. Show your ID/passport at registration.

  2. Provide three (3) copies of the score of the piece you play for the jury panel at registration.

​General Rules on Enrolment

Number of Entries

One contestant can only enter once for each class. Though one can enrol into different classes. For example, the same contestant can enter these 4 classes at the same time: piano aged 13 or under, piano aged 18 or under, violin aged 13 or under, and violin open class.

Choice of Repertoire

The piece you use in the Preliminary DOES NOT need to be the same as the one you play in the Final. You can play the same piece or play a different piece as long as the pieces are within the time limit.

Repeats Observation

Do not play standard section repeats, including first-time bars. However, (Da Capo) (D.C.) and (Dal Segno) (D.S.) indications, as well as very short repeats (e.g., just a few bars) should be observed.
